Story #44: Escape at Denny's

Escape at Denny's

I glanced up at Vienna as she stared down at the crumpled napkin, trying as hard as she could to not look sad, although it was hard not to look sad in a run down Denny's at 3:09 AM, with the person you fear most watching over you. As I looked back to the dirty floor, I heard footsteps behind me, making me immediately go on edge. He's back. I put my head down again, making sure to not look in his eyes. That would make him even more angry.
"Can we at least get some water while we're here..." Vienna asked Simon timidly.
"You just had water a couple hours ago. Plus I don't need to be wasting money on things as worthless as you." Simon grumbles.
          "But we're thirs-"
With a loud slam of his fist on the table, Simon shouts, "Save it. I can see now that we're going to have problems if you don't watch that mouth. I wish I never would've taken you two."
I sat there, mustering up the courage to talk. After about three minutes, I let out a nervous sigh and said "Simon, may I please use the restroom"
He replied with a grunt, followed by an uninterested "Fine, but only because you're not as stupid as the other girl."
I got up abruptly and once I was behind Simon, I got Vienna's attention, motioning to the door. She looked at me, perplexed. I mouthed "run". She then understood, and looked to Simon, who was now staring down at the menu intently. She started inching out of her seat, trying carefully to make it unnoticed. It was working so far, and by the time she got to the edge of her seat, she bolted up and ran towards me.
I started running alongside Vienna, towards the door, towards freedom. We heard a shout from Simon, but we kept going. We didn't know where we were going or what we were going to do, but we did know that we were free. For now.

Story #43: Mystery

Mystery
The first time I met him I thought, John C. Hodad. What a peculiar name. He walked into my classroom during third period on the first day after we came back from Christmas break.
"Hello. My name is Ms. Appleman. I'm your health teacher. You are in the right class I presume?" I added as he gave me a awkward, sideways glance.
"Yeah," John answered quietly as he went to sit in the only empty desk at the back of the room. He didn't say anything else for the rest of that period and I figured I should keep him after class to talk. Maybe he was just a quiet kid, but I saw potential in him.
"So, are you going to participate in my class eventually, or will you always sit at your desk and stare blankly at your pen? Believe it or not I actually enjoy teaching and am here not only for the payment, but because I love the atmosphere and being able to teach your young minds and watch them grow into their full potential. I see that in you, potential, and I don't plan on sitting back and watching it go to waste. Are you with me?" I asked smiling like a fool.
"Sure," he mumbled as he turned and walked towards the door. "See you tomorrow Ms. Appleman," he added as a last thought.
For the next week, he came to class and left. He always had his homework done, but never said a word. Walking down the hallway on Thursday, when he dropped his books in front of my classroom, we connected. I noticed that he had a Bob Larson novel in his arms. Bob Larson was the most famous author of this century and his mystery novels had me on the edge of my seat every time I got my hands on a book of his.
Third period Friday morning, John came barreling into the classroom with his nose buried into a book, almost running into me. "Woah, there, speedy McGee!" I joked with him. "What's that book you have your nose buried in all the time? Bob Larson?"... no response. "Okay, well which one's your favorite because personally, The Tale of Lockwood Hall is mine."
All of the sudden, his eyes shot up to meet mine. "Oh my gosh... You like Bob Larson?! He's like, the best mystery writer of all time! I can't believe you read his books. The Tale of Lockwood Hall is my second favorite.  My first is The Clue of the Leaning Chimney," he said with a start.
I finally broke him. Way to go Mrs. Appleman. Mental high-five. "Well, I'm very glad to hear that. Do you write at all?" I questioned. "I'd love to read some of your works." Over the next couple of weeks, John brought in 10 writing samples he had written and they were amazing. I passed them on to Mr. Dawson, the English teacher, and together we worked out a writing program for John.

Throughout the next two years, we developed his writing style and even got him to meet Bob Larson. He was elated! John was inspired to go to college for writing and went on to be an even more renowned author than Bob. After my retirement, I loved receiving rough drafts of books to come and published books from my former student and friend, John C. Hodad.

Story #42: The Project

The Project

It was another gloomy Monday morning and it was living up to the status. My day was off to a bad start and it could only get worse. I got up and ready for school as fast as I could, since I forgot to set my alarm the night before. My day was off to a bad start and it has just started...
I got onto the bus, with my granola bar in my hand, and plopped down into my seat. The bus ride felt like it took forever. I finally got to school and my day instantly got better when I saw my best friend Tory. She is tall, blonde, and has glasses. She is so funny, she can always make my day better.
"Hi Tory," I exclaimed to my best friend.
"Hey, can you get your laptop out to make sure our geography movie is done?" Tory asked me. I got my bag and unzipped it, I started to get nervous. MY LAPTOP WAS GONE.
"Oh my god, my laptop isn't in my bag! My life is over," I cried out. We both just stood there for a minute and didn't say anything to each other. Our geography presentation is today, and if we don't show it, we get a zero. Tory and I have been working on this project for months and all for nothing.
Mr. Milem, our geography teacher, is really strict and doesn't accept any excuses. This project will determine our overall grade for the semester. I can't even begin to think about the consequences I will have if I fail this class.
The day goes on and Tory just ignores me until we come face to face in Geography class 7th hour. She looks pretty mad, but I don't understand why, we all make mistakes. She never reminded me last night or this morning to make sure I remembered.
"So what are we going to tell Mr. Milem?" Tory asked.
"I think he'll understand if we just explain to him that I forgot my laptop..." I said.
"No," she cut me off, "YOU can explain to him that you are irresponsible and forgot something that I needed to get a good grade in this class. I thought I could trust you, my best friend, to be my partner for this project. I guess not."
All I could do was stand there, she has crushed my feelings. My best friend hasn't talked to me all day, and now she's insulting me in front of the whole class. I can't believe this is how Tory feels.
"Okay class, Tory and Nora are presenting first today," Mr. Milem explained as he walked into the classroom, "so let's get in our seat and be quiet."
"Actually," I started, "I forgot my laptop at home this morning."
"Hey! Sorry it took me so long but I figured you needed this Nora," my mom sputter as she rushed in with my laptop.
Oh my gosh, what a life saver! I can't believe my mother actually brought it to me without asking, I totally blanked on asking her to. "Thanks so much Mom!" I yelled out.
My mom left and we set up my computer and showed our presentation. At the end of class Mr. Milem told Tory and I that we did a great job.
My mom saved the day, mine and Tory's grades, and our friendship! I can't thank her enough.

Story #41: A Happy Ending

A Happy Ending

Luke Johnston was standing in the street of New York City staring into one of the many store windows. Unfortunately the one he chose to stop at is the wedding store with all the fancy rings and a wedding dress. This reminded him of how sad he is. He is thinking of how he wishes he had a wife in one of those dresses or wear one of those rings. Just as he was daydreaming into the window of the store a beautiful red headed women appeared in the window. Their eye contact lasted about thirty seconds. He knew in his mind he had to find out who this magnificent women is.
He hurried home to talk to his mom about how amazing the women in the wedding store is. His mom sadly had no idea who she was. He quickly began thinking of an idea of how to go into the store and be able to talk to her. The first thing that popped into his head is lie and say he was looking for something. Since that is the only thing he could think of that is exactly what he did. The only problem was it was six o'clock, the exact time the store close. He would just have to wait until tomorrow.
The next day he woke up bright and early to make sure he was the first one to the store. He walked out of the basement in his best outfit. As he walked by every mirror in the house he checked to make sure he looked okay still.
He set out on his quest to the wedding store. Unfortunately he lived approximately seven blocks from the wedding store so it was quite a trip. On the way past his friend Chuck Milem's Chuck walked outside. Chuck has the same kind of luck with women as Luke did. He still lived with his parents, too. Chuck and Luke walked to the wedding store together. While on the journey to the store Chuck gave Luke all the advice he could think of on how to get the store worker to like him. By the time they got to the store they had their plan figured out.
When they walked into the store the first thing they saw was the magnificent red headed women walking towards them. She looked Luke straight in the eyes and said in her very elegant voice, "What can I help you fellas with?" Luke immediately froze. He said, "My friend is looking for a ring for his girlfriend." Very quickly she started finding rings to show to Chuck. He pretended to be interested because he was just trying to follows Luke's role. When Chuck had enough of looking at rings with no purpose he just decided to tell her that none of these rings would look good on his girlfriend's hand. As they were walking past the front desk heading for the door Luke sneakily put one of his cards with his phone number, name, and address on it. On the bottom it says hit me up for a good time.
That night as he was sitting there eating dinner he got a phone call from an unknown number. He answered it and it was her beautiful voice. They arranged to go on a date the next day.
Since it was Saturday Luke's mom was home to help him get ready for his date. He wore a nice striped bow tie with a plain shirt and khakies. This is the best he has looked in forever. He just realized one important thing. He doesn't even know her name. Luke picked her up at 6 at her house and went nicely up to the door to greet her. They went and had dinner at Olive Garden. Turns out the two really hit it off. Chuck's advice worked after all. Mary and Luke ended up getting married with Chuck as the best man. Eventually they had three kids and lived happily ever after.

Story #40: Untitled (2)

Untitled (2)

One day during the festival of Magis an explosion went off in the distance. "OUCH!, YOUR GONNA PAY FOR THAT ONE!", yelled Zero. The crowd around the three people was starting to get more excited with every second passing. "I doubt that you will be able to get me back for that one!" yelled Jack. Zero went in to get Jack back but then the third figure pulled out something and hit Zero with it and sent him flying towards the wall but Zero quickly got back up and to where the two cheaters where. "You know that item is illegal in this tournament so why did you just use it!" yelled Zero. "Why isn't obvious we want to win no matter what we do in this tournament." said the mysterious man. Then all of a sudden Zero collapsed.

When Zero woke up he was outside of town and all he could hear was a crowd cheering like something good happened. When he got to the town all he saw was a bunch of congratulation banners all over town. When someone was walking by he asked what they were for and the towns person answered that they were up to celebrate the victors of the tournament. When Zero heard this he was out raged because during the fight the lights went out and some kind of gas was pumped into the arena which knocked him and the audience out cold. This he figured had to be the work of the two cheaters Jack and the mysterious man.

He went to look for them but had no luck on the first few days then on the third day of looking for them he finally found them and confronted them. When he had finished what he was saying to them they just smiled and said "We were wondering if anyone would ever find out what we did but no one said anything for two days so we assumed that no one knew." . "I challenge you to another tournament if I win you must tell everyone what you did if you beat me I will keep my mouth shut about your cheating in tournaments." said Zero. Jack sighlently said "Um hey Kayaba what should we do.". Zero over heard the Mysterious mans name and he sighlently said to himself "So his name is Kayaba.". "We accept your challanged what and where do you want to do this." Jack said. "We will do this in the VRMMORPG game of Gun Gale Online so everybody can watch us do this and it will be a battle and be there by 6P.M. ." ,Zero said, ("so there is no way for them to cheat without the game and these people seeing them do it." ) Zero said under his breath. "We agree to your terms." Jack said after talking to Kayaba.

It was 5:50P.M. and Zero was certain that they would be here in 3 minutes. Sure enough in two minutes and thirty seconds later they showed up. "Lets do this." they all said at once. When the game started 2,000 people were watching them in game and 4,000 people in real life were watching them because this battle was between the three strongest people in real life and in virtual reality. When Zero heard the bell he activated his cloaking skill and his silent moving skills to get up close to them. "Hey, Kayaba we have never been in this game before except for the past 7 hours we been playing do you think we really have a chance to beat this guy?" Jack said. "Not unless we cheat like we always do" Kayaba said silently.

It has been 20 minutes and Zero still couldn't find them so he figured they were up to there old cheating habits again so he started to move more cautious than he normally did. When he finally caught up he saw that they did cheat and so did everybody else cause they were cloning themselves and getting legendary weapons out of no where. This is the only opprutunity Zero saw to take them down once and for all so he attacked screaming "You stupid cheating scumbags!". This shocked Jack and Kayaba because they didn't think he was actually this stupid enough to attack them right now. When Zero started attacking he first targeted the clones so he could deal with the originals. It took about ten minutes and about 20 health potions to kill all 30 of the clones that Jack and Kayaba created. Now his main targets were the cheaters themselves. When he got up close he felt a sharp pain in his leg it felt like someone stabbed him even though the cheaters hadn't touched him yet ... "wait a minute" Zero thought "Did these people hire some one to distract me with pain from the real world so they could get an easy win." "That settles it these people were going down no matter what now." Zero thought angrily. When Zero attacked them he was able to deal some major damage to both of them he just needed to get two more clean shots or hits on both of them and he would win. Right before he could shoot them they cut his gun clean in half and this made Zero jump away from shock then he remambered he had two light sabers he could use to defend himself from these sword attacks but he only took on out and charged back into battle. Zero got hit around four time total before he took down Jack now it was just him and Kayaba. When Zero charged Kayaba he pulled out another sword which forced Zero to pull out his other lightsaber to fight him. The furious battle went on for 30 minutes with both of them using potions to heal themselves but finally Kayaba ran out of potions and Zero just needed to hit Kayaba one more time to win so he charged which was not a smart move because as he charged Kayaba knocked out the second light saber out of his hand then cut his hand off. Zero went down for a moment then got back up and knock the second sword away from Kayaba now he just needed to get one clean hit one Kayaba to win. About ten minutes later Zero won the match barley and was transported back to the main terminal so he could log out to meet them in person so he could make sure they do what they promised. When he logged out all he could feel was the pain in his leg when he got up to look at it he saw ther was a knife in his leg but he still got up and met with them and made them do what they promised and they did and they appologised for cheating and gave up all their titles they won by cheating which was around 200 titles.

Story #39: The Bad Day

The bad day.

Today was the worst day of my entire life. It was fair week and I couldn't go. It was August 15, 2015 I was at my dad's for the entire week of the Whiteside County fair. It was a Wednesday and I spent the whole day before at the fair having fun. I woke up Wednesday with a terrible cold and fever but I still insisted on going to the fair but my dad demanded that I didn't. I slept till noon and woke up with my fever gone.
"I'm off to the fair," I yelled!
"Not so fast, " my dad, Joe pronounced.
"I'm fine my fevers gone and I sound fine dad."
"You're sick and need to stay home!"
"Fine I'm going upstairs to bed."
     "Ok."
I ran up stairs put a jacket on and my shoes and jumped from my room to my deck. When I landed I must have sprained my ankle. I yelped. I quickly jumped down off the deck and slid past the Windows and booked it. I got a block down from the fair when I got a call from my dad. I acted like I left my phone somewhere. Later that night I was walking around the fair with a buddy when I saw my aunt char. I ran between two games and when I wasn't looking I hit the hitch of a game. I flipped in the air landing on my butt. I hit my shin really hard and thought I broke it. I later snuck off and went to the gambling making where yesterday I'd won thirty dollars. I was playing when I notice the jackpot in one was on the edge and the person was out of money. I lost most of my money on the last on and was down $27.50. I only had $2.50 left. I started to play and lost the rest of my money. Someone stole the machine from me and and won it. So I left. As I was walking out my dad pulled up and told me to get in. I got grounded and had to go home and wasn't able to go back till Friday.
All in all I learned not to try and sneak out and that if your parents tell you not to do something then don't.

Story #38: The Forest

The Forest
In the Rocky Mountains there were many creatures however, this particular creature was special. Many have heard of it and yet want to hurt it. Natives of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado seen these beautiful creatures. This creature was the mule deer, known for it's ears that resemble a mule, thus it's name. It was a cool, wet morning with the dew on grass and the sun taking it's place. There in the prairie stands the Buck.
The Buck was the head of herd, keeping watch over all his territory. As other deer lied in the grass eating he waited and watch. This Buck unlike many of his ancestors knew what to watch for and who was coming. Hunters, particularly one that tried to hunt out of season for his own greed. Even in protected areas this hunter could find a way in and kill enough deer to feed a whole family of five. This man was know as saint to hunters and a plague to the deer. For this man was called Farmer Gray. A vile man who was rough in appearance and rude in heart. He was a middle-aged man about forty who knew just as much the Buck.
As the sun finally took his place in the sky, the deer move back into the forest where they thrive. The Buck stays last making sure his herd has all gotten in safely. As he looks he notice that two fawns playing in the prairie, in plain sights. Suddenly, the Buck rushes towards the two and stomps in front of them if as saying, "Get up! A hunter may see you!". The fawns immediately get up, looking down in shame. They know what could happen but what are the chances?
The one fawn knew he had let down the Buck, he was next head of the herd. The fawn was growing antlers, just tiny nubs to most. He was naive but energetic, kind too. He was known to sleep and waste the day away when he could. He tried to like the Buck but he was only a child. Though most of the herd didn't know, the Buck was kind, despite being quiet and tough. But for the fawn he could see what he truly was.
As the fawns got up, the Buck immediately nudged them to get into the forest where it would be safe. The Buck had heard something but what? He was cautious for if he would to die, the herd would all go down with him. He knew what to do, lure the sound away from the others. Like a gun shooting off, he began to ran into the prairie.
Hunter Gray could see that the Buck make such a move from such a distance. Even though he was an old man he still the eyesight of a eagle, making him completely aware of his surroundings. The old man had wanted to hunt this buck for many seasons but it seemed impossible. The Buck was too clever for Hunter Gray even to shoot close to his herd and him. Hunter Gray took caution, for if he were to shout to many bullets off someone may become suspicious. In a way many would call him a pocher, others a great hunter. However now was not the time to think of memories only the hunt he was in now.
Hunter Gray had raised his gun, looking for the perfect time to shoot. The Buck was trying to trick him into thinking he just dancing but the Buck was much smarter. Wasting no time Hunter Gray took his first shoot and missed. The bullet can down and hit the ground next to the Buck, Hunter Gray was learning how the Buck worked. The Buck stayed strong and dashed away from his herd, making sure they were safe.
Gray was not about to leave empty handed once more thus ready to take his second shot. He saw what the Buck was doing and lifted his gun to shoot. The gun went off and as quiet as the forest was a small cry was heard. Something the Buck was to familiar to hear in his lifetime. He ran into the forest only to see that the fawn had been shot, the one to take his place after he passed on. This is what Gray knew to lure the Buck away from his herd.
Saddened by this the herd and the Buck let out a cry but there was no time to hesitate, they must go or Gray will hunt them all. The Buck motion to herd to move deeper into the forest, where it would be safe. He stayed back knowing what he would do to avenge the fawn. Hunter Gray then came down from position to see what he killed and was prepared. He was prepared for what the Buck may do to him.
Without warning the Buck charged, scaring the old man causing him to drop his gun. The Buck then pushed him out the forest as if telling him, "Leave, leave now and never return". Hunter Gray laughed, after all these years he didn't want to kill him just leave. He walked back slowly with his hands in to air and replied, "I'm leaving poor beast, however what will you do? You have no heir to your herd". The Buck had his back to the hunter then turned in a rage by the words, ramming him with his antlers.

Gray looking wide eyed, slowly falling to the ground. The Buck never meant harm but the Hunter had provoked him. The Buck went back to his herd, going to the nearest river to wash his antlers. He was relieved, knowing that Hunter Gray would never harm or disturb the herd or him again.

Story #37: State Championship

State Championship

It was a brisk October morning. It was the day before John Paul and the mighty Winnebago Falcons headed for the class 2a state championship. John met up with Nicholas Waters his best friend and they headed to what was the final practice of their senior year. They both knew they would need a great practice before they faced their hated rival Alfred McGee of the New Zealand Bulldogs.

As John and Nick approached practice there was a sense of urgency in everyone. The whole team wanted to win a state title and beat their Bulldog rivals. They started off the practice with Coach telling them that they would just have a light walk through and then be sent home to rest before the big game. They ran through the plays they knew the Bulldogs would run tomorrow night, broke it out and went home. As John walked off the field he asked Nick if he wanted to throw the pigskin around for a little bit before leaving. The two of them had a deep talk about how much it would mean to each of them to win a state championship for their little town.

When John got of the bus at the championship game the next day he walked onto the field trying to soak up every moment of it. A couple hours later it was game time and the Falcons were suited up and warming up on the field. Coach told them before opening kickoff that to stay disciplined and do their own jobs and they would come out on top.

The Falcons booted it deep to Alfred and he brought the ball back all the way to the one yard line. The Falcons had already dug themselves a deep hole giving up a huge return on the opening kick. As John ran out to his defensive position he was yelling, "We need to get a stop here Falcons." Sadly it didn't help because 3 short plays later Alfred finished what he started by taking a handoff from the Bulldogs quarterback and smashing across the goalline. The Bulldogs decided to kick the extra point but missed so it then made it a 6point game with 10 minutes and 30 seconds to play in the first quarter. The bulldogs proceeded to kick off but the Falcons could not get anything going on offence. They had to punt and their defense forced a stop right away. It had been a defensive battle the whole entire night up until the last two minutes of the game when the falcons began to march down the field. Their offence was getting in a rhythm behind their All state running back John Paul and their mighty quarterback Nick Waters. The drive then halted at the one yard line with a mere 15 seconds to go.The Falcons had to go for it with being this late in the game down by one score. Nick stepped into the huddle and said to the whole team, "This could be our last offensive play on our high school careers, how do you want to end it!" He then called buck sweep right. It was I formation with John Paul deep behind his full back.

As John got into his running back stance he knew that the fate of the Winnebago Falcons was on his shoulders. As Nick yelled the cadence John could feel his heart pulling like it was gonna explode. Then in a sudden moment Nick snapped the ball, turned around and then pitched it to the right hitting John right in the hands as he followed his fullback. John watched the fullback smash the outside linebacker and John was gonna be free for the touchdown but he then saw Alfred sprinting down from his safety position. John knew that Alfred had a great angle and as he tried to lower his shoulder Alfred hit him right in the thighs and John knew he was inches short of the goal line but with great awareness stuck the ball over the plain. He thought he got the ball across the line and as he was falling down looked to his right, to see the official with his arms in the air. They had scored as time expired which just left the extra point to win a state title. The Falcons kicked the extra point and it went right threw the middle, they had just won the game. The Winnebago Falcons were state champions!

Story #36: God's Gift

God's Gift
It was that time of year again. The game everyone was waiting for. Psyched fans packed the stands, patiently waiting to watch the game and aggressively yell at others. It was the last game the Hawks could have all year. But for young Dejounte Jenkins, he knew his entire reputation would lie upon this game. Before we get into any real detail, Let me start from the beginning.
Dejounte was just your average high school student from Emerson High School in Kirkland, Washington. He would walk the halls to hear people yell,
"What up DJ! Ready for the big game tonight?"
"Oh man, you know I am," Dejounte would reply to them.
But Dejounte had a gift from God. He had the gift of playing basketball at a prestigious level. WIth his tall, lengthy frame of about 6'7", and weighing in at a buck eighty. Combined with the athletic abilities of John Wall, and the scoring ability of Kevin Durant, it made him a prime candidate as one of the top high school players in the nation. But little did Dejounte know, was that his world was about to be flipped upside down.
Early tuesday morning, Dejounte woke up for his regular morning practice. He showed on time, did his stretching, and did drills as normal. They divided up the A team and B team for team scrimmage. Dejounte lines up at the three point arch. He saw on opening towards the baseline. As he flew past his defender, he heard and felt a mean, popping sound in his ankle. Shortly after, he collapsed on the ground.
"Dang DJ! Are you alright?" his teammate Yustice asked.
"Yeah man, I'll be good," cautioned Dejounte.
As Dejounte tried to stand, he immediately fell back onto the ground. Everyone in the gym flocked towards him. He insisted that he could leave on his own, but later had to be helped carried off the court.
Later that morning, Dejounte and his mother went to the local hospital. There, he had x-rays taken of his foot.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you DJ," started the doctor, "But you've suffered a severe fracture in your left ankle. You will have to be out a couple of weeks"
Dejounte knew his team's hopes of a playoff run was among him, but with himself out, the team would not have a good chance of completing this task.
"How long to you think I'll be out, Doc?" Dejounte said
"Well, by the looks of these x-rays, it could be about 3 to 4 weeks"
The fear struck Dejounte. His mind started to race. He knew that this entire season was the most important. After all, it was his senior season. He had received college offers from smaller Division 1 schools such as Wake Forest, and St. Johns. He always envisioned playing for the big names. Duke, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Michigan State. He knew if he had won the state championship, his dreams would come true.
The next few weeks consisted of a bunch of nothing. Dejounte was on crutches for the time. He would go home, rest, ice, and do his school work. It killed him on the inside that he couldn't do what he loved. But before he knew it, the doctor had cleared him to get back on the court.
The Hawks had lost 7 of their last 13 games when Dejounte was out. Slowly letting their playoffs hopes slip away. When he heard the next game was against the Bulldogs, the toughest team in the state, he knew he had to go off.
Today was the day. Dejounte waited patiently in the locker room. Everyone was counting on this kid for this playoff run. His entire high school career was in jeopardy tonight. He knew that this was his moment. Many doubted he could play at the same level after his injury. But these people would be in for a rude awakening.
Dejounte would go off for 36 points in the 108-101 victory against the Bulldogs, advancing them to the playoffs. Dejounte and the Hawks would later go on to win the State Championship in Washington. Earning him a scholarship with UCLA, and eventually, a chance to enter the NBA. But that's another story for another time.

Story #35: Heir

Heir
As the summer sun drifted through the trees in Central Park I am taken rather forcefully out of my painting trance by my sister Marisa yelling in my ear, " Amy Lou Allen so help me come back to earth or you will suffer the consequences."
" Marissa Suzanne Allen I think I'll take my chances." I say In a joking manor. My sister is a lot like me short (under 5'7), long red hair, blue/green eyes, artistic, bookworm but one thing is for sure we are exact opposites on the social radar. Marisa is the social butterfly with all the friends and good looks but I'm the one with the brain and shyness with my simple clothes, I rule my own world of quiet people that like to keep to themselves and study all the time.
" Well hey there," Says Luke J. Grayson the late one of our little group," I thought Ihad missed the most exciting part of the day but I see that the sisterly fight was postponed till my handsome arrival"
"So you mean to say that you spend your sunday off with us just because we're exciting for you?" I ask. Luke Being the hottest guy in Newton Street high school could have easily spent his free time with anyone else but, he seems to have taken a liking for me and my sister, more so with me for some odd reason.
"Well why wouldn't  I painting in the park is so much fun!" As he drips with sarcasm,"It makes this place so much less boring when you fight and it means I don't have to stare at the duck pond all day."he states rather triumphantly. "Anyway could we possibly go somewhere else and do something fun for once today please?"
"You just ask because you know we won't say no don't you," Marissa asks with a smile,"What do you think Amy?"
Oh why not,"Sure where are we going?" Might as well please the crowd.
"What about that new coffee place on Second Ave?"Luke asks hesitantly.
"So long as you buy."I say happily. A few minutes later we are coming up on the coffee shop and I notice that the same van as been following us since we left the park and before I can say anything Luke drags me into the alley we just passed with his large hand over my face so I can't  make any noise and the next thing I see before passing out is the van that followed us stop and luke pull me into it.
Several hours later.
"Amy? Amy wake up please?" Luke says with slight worry in his voice but why would he be worried he just kidnapped me and god knows where I am now.
"Why should I you traitor" Venom dripping from my voice.
"Because you don't don't understand what's going and if you will let I can explain everything to you." Luke laughs
" Where am I and what have you done to me." I finally notice that someone has done my hair and changed me into an elegant green gown.
" Allow me to explain everything for you," Luke replies.
" Well isn't that what I asked you to do?"I snap back
"Yes and if you would just give me a moment I will," he takes a large breath and tells me that I was right that my parents did die in a car crash. He also tells me that my parents were very important people and when I was born and I was the target of a possible attack to get revenge. My parents then thought that it would be best if I went into hiding and so we moved to america until the threat to my life was gone and now that it is I have been returned to my home and am to be the future queen of this country.
" Wait so who are my parents then?" Iask in a rather shaky voice.
" Your parents were the King and Queen of The River Valley kingdom hence the green." He nods to my dress
" If i'm royalty of this supposed country then are we in River Valley?" I ask.
"Yes you are" He states rather proudly," And I have another surprise for you."
"What could be more surprising than what i've already gone through?" I ask shortly.
"You're the new queen," he smiles
The end.

Story #34: The Ingredient

The Ingredient
The greatest pizza in the world is what the sign said. Syle Kover didn't believe it and neither did Parrett Gassmore. Their curiosity made it impossible to not go into Ma Ma Murphys pizza parlor. As they walked in the smell hit them immediately. The place was packed full of everybody from families of four to biker gangs. Parrett  and Syle knew the pizza had to be good just by the smell and sight. They walked up to the front where you ordered and looked at the menu. They only had one pizza available. The cheese pizza. "That so boring!" Parrett exclaimed."I don't even really like cheese" Syle said but they went in there for a reason. To find out just how good the greatest pizza in the world was.
A lady came up to take take their order. Even though there was only one option. She took them to their seats and told them it would be about fifteen minutes. That was surprising considering the large amount of people in there. The twenty minutes passes and they saw this "greatest pizza in the world" approaching. "Wow" Syle shouted. The pizza was humongous for only paying 10$. Everything about the pizza made it a beautiful sight. The steam radiating from the top and gooey cheese and crispy crust. She sat the pizza on the table and said "Enjoy. There's never been a person who hasn't come back" she said confidently. They each took a piece and were ready to devour this irresistible looking pizza.
Parrett and Syle each took bite. "This is outstanding!" shouted the both of them. "How is this the first time we have heard of this place?" they both thought. They taste was like heaven when it hit your tongue. When they finished the pizza they just had to know what was in the amazing thing. They saw the kitchen was closed behind two large iron doors. "How are we gonna get back there?" asked Syle.
"We should wait till this place closes and then sneak in," said Parrett.
"Sounds like a plan," said Syle. They got there bill and were out he door.
"That was really cheap!" exclaimed Parrett.
"How do you think they can sell something so delicious at such a little price?" asked Syle.
"Not sure, but we'll find out tonight," said Parrett.
They planned it all out. The night starts at 11 P.M. When Ma'am Murphys closes. They will wait till the last person leaves. They meet and headed to Ma Ma Murphy's. When they got there it was 11:30. There as one person left in there. It was the janitor cleaning up. They waited in the car for twenty minute after the janitor finally left. Then the coast was clear. They went to the back in their ski masks to make sure the cameras wouldn't see them. They walked up to the door assuming it would be locked. Parrett took a pull to check and it opened wide. "What idiots," they both whispered. They walked in and some of the lights were still on. "Look for a key or something for this big door," said Parrett.
"I doubt they just left it here but i'll look just for you," laughed Syle. He turned around and yet again to their surprise the key was on the front desk where they had ordered.
"It's like they are trying to help us," said Parrett.
"Well let's open the thing," exclaimed Syle. They walked up to the big iron doors and Syle put his hand on the door to lean and it also opened. "AHHH!" They both yelled.
"Hey!" shouted this strange man.
"Sorry," they both yelled. "We'll leave now," they both said.
"No!" exclaimed the man. "I've been waiting for you," said the man.
          "What?" Syle asked.
"I saw you two in here earlier," laughed the man. "I knew you'd be back," the man said. "What are you talking about?" Both of them said.
"There's always people who try the same thing you do," he explained. "They all want the same thing, the ingredients but there is only one key ingredient," said the man.
"We'll since you're probably going to call the police can you atleast tell us?" they asked.           "Oh no no no, I'm not going to do that," said the man. What a waste that would be," the man said.
         "A waste?" asked Parrett.
"What would you be wasting?" asked Syle.
         "Ingredients," the man said.
"What do you mean?" they both asked.
"Why do you think the door was unlocked," said the man.
"No, I don't believe you," said Syle.
"Then I'll show you," said the man.
The man walked past the boys to the fridge and opened it. Syle and Parrett gasped as they saw the heads in freezer.
"RUN!"  yelled Parrett. They flew past the man and there were two others blocking the door. They grabbed the boys and dragged them in through the iron doors. As both Syle and Parrett cried for their lives the man gave them a giant gasp of relief when he burst into laughter.
"You boys seem to have forgotten what day it is," he cried. Both boy looked at each other. "April fools!" all three of the men shouted. "This is the best year yet," said one of the men at the door.
"So you're not going to kill us? Asked Parrett.
"Of course not'" the man laughed. "We heard you two talking about coming in here and we always do something for this glorious day," said the man. "Now get out of here kids," exclaimed the man. Both the boys walked out in laughter. The men shut the doors behind them. The man giggled. " Now, get these heads in the oven. Tomorrows a big," he shouted. " If only those boys knew they were real," laughed the man.
