Story #7: Samantha's Ears

Samantha's Ear's
Ring, Ring Ring, went Samantha's alarm clock. She wakes up looks at the ceiling and lets out a loud unpleasant groan. She looks at her ceiling for about five minutes and then gets up from her bed, realizes it's Monday morning and then she starts to get ready for her day. She goes into the bathroom and turns the water on for her shower. She showers, gets out does her hair and make-up and then heads downstairs to where her parents are. Samantha is 15 years old and is the only child.
She goes to the refrigerator and gets the milk so  she can have a bowl of cereal before she heads to school, but before she leaves she asks her parents a quick question.
She says, "Mom, Dad can I ask you a serious question?"
Her mother looks at her while her dad is shoving his face full of cereal, "Sure honey, go ahead."
So then Samantha asks, "Can I please get my ears pierced, all of my friends have them done except me."
Her parents both stop what they are doing, look at each other again and her mother replies with,"Honey, you know the answer to that, your father and I don't want you getting you ears pierced until you are out of the house.
After her mother said that Samantha heard the bus honk and said,
"Gotta go the bus is here," Samantha shouts as she runs out the door
Samantha arrives at school and steps off the bus, sees Monica with her long brown hair and Jill with her hoop earrings. Monica and Jill both have their ears pierced so that's is why Samantha wants hers done. She starts talking to her friends then tells them that she asked her parents if she could get her ears pierced. They both give each other a look and then Jill says, "Well what did they say?" as Monica pushes her grabbing her arm excitedly,  she tells them they said to wait till tonight and we could talk about. She didn't want to tell them what they really said because she want to fit in and doesn't want to lose her friends.
The following night after Samantha was done with golf practice she went home and sat in the kitchen. About an hour later her mother comes home and Samantha just looks at her. A few moments later her dad comes barging through the front door.
"Why in such a hurry pop?"
"I had my hands full and was going to drop my coffee mug."
"Oh", says Samantha with her head cocked looking at her father.
After he sets everything down on the kitchen counter he looks around looking for his coat. He then realizes he left it in the car and goes out and gets it.  When he walks back into the house Samantha is staring at him and so is her mother. Her father then knows what Samantha wants to talk about.
He says, "We will talk about it after we eat dinner."
Samantha rolls her eyes and says,"Okay," and walks upstairs and slams the door.
Five o'clock comes around the corner and Samantha come down to eat dinner. Her mother is in the dining room setting the table and her dad watching the Cardinals vs. Cubs game. Her mother said, "Dinner's done."
So they all gather in the dining room to eat. They pray and then dig into the marvelous food. Samantha starts to eat and looks around at her parents.  She then decides to bring up about what they talked about this morning.
"So, about the whole earring, have you thought about it?"
"Yes honey we have thought about it and we have decided to let you."
"Really?!?!"
"Yes, you are old enough now and you can get them done on Saturday."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, I love you guys so much."
The following day Samantha arrives at school, runs over to Monica and Jill and tell them that she is getting her ears pierced on Saturday if they would like to join her. Saturday slowly comes around and it is time for Samantha to get her ears pierced. She goes into the store pick earrings out and says I'm ready. The girl working tells her that it doesn't hurt a bit. She get her ears cleaned gets the gun ready and then.... Clamp Clamp. You're all done, you didn't even flinch a bit. She looks around at her friends and says, "Wow, that wasn't so bad after all."

  9. Her dad said yes because the Cubs won, right? :) Even if you've never had your ears pierced, I think all teens can relate to the fact that they are at the mercy of their parents/guardians. That disappointed feeling of wanting something so badly, but being told "No" is universal.

  14. This projects the struggles of someone who desperately wants something, and anyone can relate to that. And I'm sure some people can relate to the short "fitting in" part in the passage. Nice story.
